The UEAB Institutional Repository called UEABSpace is an online collection of the UEAB research output. The Library collects, manages, and provides open access to the aggregated research projects of the UEAB community.  We desire, as a learning community, to foster the open development and exchange of ideas by providing open access to our academic output. This free learning environment promotes access to our collections, and indicates in a tangible way, our social and academic impact in the world.  We believe that sharing our research output with the world will increase the UEAB visibility, status and global recognition.

The University expects its academics, scholars and scientists who publish research papers through direct or indirect funding by the University or through teaching and learning, to provide through the Library online access, use and application of their findings freely to the global academic environment. As such, material which represents the publicly available research and scholarly output of the University is to be located in UEABSpace, the University’s Institutional Repository, and the output is made available to the public through Open Access.

The Purpose of the University Repository are to:

  • to raise the profile and stature of the UEAB by making its scholarly output available online;

  • to use the IR as a way of assisting anyone interested in finding out more about UEAB (for instance, potential new faculty and graduate students);

  • To increase the citation impact of our researchers as a result of increased usage that Open Access brings.It perpetuates our scholars’ presence in the global arena;

  • To better educate the society through better technology transfer, and better diffusion of knowledge through free accessibility to scholarly works;

  • To provide central storage and preservation for the UEAB academic heritage. While papers may be stored on personal web pages, search engines will rank results from repositories much higher, which enhances the author’s visibility. Papers will also be preserved in the repository indefinitely, whereas personal web pages may no longer exist after a few years;

  • To increase access to research funds by fulfilling the conditions of research grants. Currently, many research funders now have Open Access (OA) policies which make funding subject to the condition that outputs are made open access.
